Abstract

Pest infestation is an obstacle in oil palm cultivation. The horned beetle pest is classified as the main pest causing damage to reduce fresh fruit bunch production. To keep pest control safe for the environment, galam wood liquid smoke is an alternative to reduce the use of chemical insecticides. This study aims to make galam wood liquid smoke and determine its effectiveness in reducing the mortality of horned beetle larvae. This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design. The treatments given were 5 treatments and 4 replicates so  20 experimental units were obtained. The treatments carried out in this study are as follows: A0 (Polydor 25 ml/L), A1 (liquid smoke 15 ml/L), A2 (liquid smoke 20 ml/L), A3 (liquid smoke 25 ml/L) and A4 (liquid smoke 30 ml/L). The results obtained, a galam wood liquid smoke dose of 30 ml/L can produce a mortality of 82.5% which is not significantly different from mortality in the administration of Polydor 25 ml/L which is 87%. This means that a galam wood liquid smoke can be an alternative insecticide for horned beetle larvae.
